An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced orthotist to join the Orthotic Service as the Advanced Orthotist/Deputy Head of Orthotics.
The Advanced Orthotist/Deputy Head of Orthotics is responsible for supporting the head of service in the day-to-day clinical and professional leadership of the team of orthotists and orthotic technicians. They support the head of service in governance, strategic development and quality improvement activities. They are directly accountable for ensuring that the team has clinical and technical capacity including staff and material resources to meet patient demand.
The successful candidate will be highly experienced as an orthotist and able to provide evidence of recent practice either in the NHS or private healthcare. This will include experience in leadership roles in a clinical environment. The ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams is vital to the role. The post holder will have a personal clinical caseload and the role will involve treating hospital in-patients and out-patients at clinics; there is an expectation that the highest standards of patient care and healthcare practices can be demonstrated.
The Tayside Orthotic Service provides a clinical orthotic service to the people of Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North East Fife. Working closely with other clinical specialities throughout NHS Tayside, including orthopaedics, rheumatology, diabetes services, medicine for the elderly and paediatric services, it provides a comprehensive clinical and in-house manufacturing service for the provision of all types of orthotic devices.
Orthotists carry out cast rectification, repairs and adjustments to orthotic devices within a workshop environment and a practical awareness of Health and Safety and working within Quality Management Systems will be necessary for the role.
This applicant should have an honours degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics and be registered with HCPC as an orthotist.
Competency will be demonstrated through evidence of qualifications, and formal interview.
