NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. The role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic highly specialised cardiac physiologist to join our team in NHSGGC South Sector, primarily based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. We will consider STP trainees graduating this year or qualified Band 6’s working toward BSE accreditation. on an Annexe 21 basis.
The postholder will provide support to the Clinical Lead and their echo colleagues across the whole range of echo clinics and services provided by the department. NHSGGC serves the largest catchment population in Scotland, with South Sector hospitals serving more than half of this with a cardiac physiology workforce of 58 WTE. The QEUH is the biggest acute hospital in the country. There is a well-established progressive echocardiography service which includes both acute inpatients, Cardiology Outpatients and an expansive service to the wider specialties provided across the South Sector.

Permanent, Part time
Shift Pattern - Monday - Tuesday 9-5 Wednesday - Friday 9.4.30
Base location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
Key responsibilities:
- To support NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s core values of quality, teamwork, care and compassion, dignity and respect, and openness, honesty and responsibility through the application of appropriate behaviours and attitudes.
- To adhere to relevant professional codes of conduct (the Registration Council of Clinical Physiologists, The Health and Care Professions Council or the Academy for Healthcare Science as appropriate).
- To support the Cardiac Physiology Team Lead in ensuring that the healthcare science team conduct themselves in accordance with these codes and within the professional governance framework
- To uphold the individuality, dignity, confidentiality, values and autonomy of every patient and to act as an exemplary role model to junior staff
- To adhere to and be fully conversant with relevant NHS GGC policies and procedures
- To assume responsibility for maintaining own continuing professional development, professional registration, and clinical accreditations; identifying own development needs in conjunction with the Cardiac Physiology Sector Manager
- To promote equality, value diversity and to challenge bullying, harassment and discrimination within the workplace, whilst encouraging and enabling others to do so
- To act as an ambassador for the Healthcare Science professions and actively engage in the scientific community
- To maintain currency of professional accreditations and registrations.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential Requirements
Professional Registration
Registered Clinical Scientist with HCPC, or eligible for HCPC registration via STP equivalence and currently registered as a Clinical Physiologist with RCCP/AHCS.
Qualifications
BSc in Clinical Physiology from an AHCS/RCCP‑approved provider (or equivalent).
Master’s‑level professional accreditation in adult transthoracic echocardiography (BSE, EACVI or equivalent), or working towards it, with evidence of ongoing CPD.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience in direct clinical supervision and mentorship of trainees.
Experience in workplace‑based assessment.
Strong knowledge of clinical cardiology, including the role and limitations of echo, exercise testing and ambulatory monitoring.
Understanding of clinical governance and experience managing clinical risk.
Intermediate IT skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Behavioural Competencies
Effective leadership, emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills.
Openness to innovation and change, with high professional integrity and accountability.
Commitment to ongoing CPD and maintaining professional standards.
Desirable
Training in venepuncture and cannulation.
Experience or exposure to physiology‑led transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) procedures.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
