The role:

We are looking to recruit a passionate, motivated leader to improve efficiency and patient flow and to assist with providing a seamless perioperative experience for our patients and clinical colleagues. The successful candidate will have the determination and vision to work with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and our stakeholders to achieve this, identifying areas of for improvement and constantly driving change. You must also have the skills to deal with conflicting pressures in a professional and calm manner and be able to work in a highly pressured environment while maintaining a can do attitude. You must have demonstrated ability of working in a complex, multidisciplinary, clinical environment. You will have excellent leadership qualities and be an effective communicator. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual wishing to affect a positive, safe patient perioperative experience, with the desire to continually improve the service, whilst being part of a supportive team. The post holder requires to be a First Level Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with relevant post registration experience. Desirable is appropriate/relevant knowledge and skills in the anaesthetic specialty, in addition to management training or experience.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full time

Shift Pattern - Monday to Sunday, including on call

Base location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Key responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for actioning identified areas of risk, implementing departmental risk strategies and reporting to the Lead Nurse. Participate in maintenance and audit of H&S folder.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Charge Nurses ensure the quality of patient care is assessed and implemented to ensure maintenance of standards of care and practice, and report to Senior Nurse Manager areas for development in practice.
  • Identify and effectively manage perioperative risks & hazards associated with the patient and the perioperative and ward environment, reporting to the Lead Nurse areas at risk.
  • Provide monthly report on departmental clinical incidents/Datix incidents including trend analysis to Lead Nurse, Theatre Users Group and all identified departments where appropriate.
  • Provide monthly analysis on complaints and ensure 20 day compliance for response.
  • Ensure compliance/ action with all Hazard warning notices and escalate where appropriate.
  • Implement monitor and maintain patient quality programmes e.g. Better together, OPAC.
  • Audit SPSP compliance and ensure display of accurate data.
  • Ensure all infection control standards are met, maintained and audited eg. HEI requirements, peer audits, hand hygiene.
  • Lead on local CDU meetings. Ensure timely update of action plans and escalate any unresolved issues.
  • Departmental approver for Datix incidents.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered Nurses on the NMC Register (Part 1) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner on the HCPC register.
  • Educated to degree level - Desirable
  • relevant post registration experience.
  • Proven managerial and clinical skills
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
