An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Mental Health Research Nurse to join our Research Team within the Shire Drugs and Alcohol Service (DAS). This post will work in close collaboration with Dr Mike Turner and the University of Stirling, supporting research focused on benzodiazepine use, dependence, withdrawal, and the optimisation of prescribing and psychosocial interventions within drugs and alcohol services.

The role will contribute to the delivery of ethically robust, patient‑centred research, aimed at improving clinical practice, safety, and outcomes for individuals prescribed benzodiazepines within addiction services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering pharmacological and psychosocial interventions and supporting the delivery of clinical research studies related to benzodiazepine use and management. This will include identifying, recruiting, consenting and supporting participants in accordance with study protocols; undertaking research assessments, data collection and follow‑up related to medication use, withdrawal symptoms and health outcomes; liaising closely with service users, prescribers and multidisciplinary mental health teams; monitoring participant safety and appropriately reporting adverse events; and promoting best practice in medicines safety and trauma‑informed, person‑centred care.

Applicants should be highly motivated, with excellent communication and team‑working skills, and committed to delivering a high standard of care when supporting individuals experiencing benzodiazepine addiction.

This post is based in Peterhead and will require travel throughout north Aberdeenshire. A car driver with access to a vehicle is essential.

An attractive relocation allowance of up to £8,000 is available to successful candidates
