The Role

Job Purpose

The post holder will carry continuing responsibility for effective organisation; coordination and management of all inpatient areas ensuring the highest standard of safe effective and person centred care is employed at all times.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

The post holder will also;

  • Respond to all clinical obstetric and neonatal emergencies within the hospital.
  • Support and work alongside medical colleagues in decision making, planning and implementing tailored care packages.
  • Demonstrate significant autonomy in coordinating and managing care provision within the inpatient areas.
  • At night and at weekends responsibility extended to cover role of SCM, Community & Neonatal coordinator ensuring the provision of care is effective, safe and person centred by effective use of resources including usage of Bank staff

In this key role, you will:

  • Planning, assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating planned programmes of care
  • Being an advocate for women and their families and promoting normality throughout pregnancy, labour, postnatal period and neonatal care.
  • Provide effective clinical leadership acting as a role model for all staff.
  • Provide effective leadership for all midwifery staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team within the clinical area maintaining, clinical/professional competence and credibility.

What You'll Bring:

  • Registered Midwife with valid NMC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
