We are recruiting a 0.8WTE B8B Senior Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist on a 2 year fixed term basis to join the existing inpatient psychology services in the adult mental health acute admissions units across NHS GG&C. You’ll be based at Dykebar Hospital in Paisley and you’ll be line managed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the Renfrewshire Inpatient Psychology Service. You’ll provide input to working age adults who are admitted to Dykebar Hospital, with a particular focus on supporting the treating teams and the patients who are subject to Continuous Intervention during their admission. You’ll also provide this support to the treating teams and the patients subject to Continuous Intervention across the admission units on the Leverndale, Stobhill and Gartnavel Royal Hospital sites as and when additional specialist input is required. In order to provide such a service across multiple hospital sites, you’ll require to have a driving licence and access to a car.
You’ll hold a Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and be registered as such with HCPC. You’ll have significant post-qualification experience of delivering psychological therapies to working age adults in an NHS adult mental health service. Knowledge and experience of working in the adult acute inpatient environment would be desirable, although applications from candidates with inpatient experience in other specialisms are also welcome.
You’ll have demonstrable knowledge, skills and experience in delivering high quality psychological input to individuals with complex mental health presentations, both directly and indirectly. Experience of systemic MDT working, team formulation and teaching/training others is desirable. The successful candidate will join the wider Renfrewshire service comprising staff in our local CMHTs, will be well supported as part of the Clyde-wide Psychology staffing, and have access to a range of professional development and CPD opportunities.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
