This is an exciting opportunity to work within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC)’s Public Health Directorate with a focused remit on health service reform; focusing on the implementation of the Population Health and Health and Social Care Services Renewal Frameworks. As the largest board in Scotland, this post provides the most varied and diverse experience across all Public Health functions, as well as opportunities for joint working or leadership across local, regional and national Workstreams.

The Directorate provides an integral function of NHSGG work, promoting and protecting health across the Board area, and works closely and collaboratively with colleagues across NHSGGC and partner agencies and services, including the six Health and Social Care Partnerships, primary care and hospital settings. The primary function of the role is to support healthcare systems to function more effectively with the aim of better healthcare contributing to improvements in healthy life expectancy and reduced inequalities.

As a Consultant in Public Health (Medicine) with Deputy Director of Public Health responsibilities, the post-holder will support the Director of Public Health in the discharge of their statutory duties and corporate functions through the provision of public health leadership across the breadth of the public health portfolio. It will have specific responsibilities for leading large scale service renewal programmes.

The successful candidate will bring the skills and drive to build on a successful track record of health intelligence and transforming health systems. A key skill set will be relationship building and the ability to build alliances to influence policy and decision-making with key partners. Whilst the post holder will not manage team members, they will provide strategic and professional leadership to multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidates must be included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice / GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
