The role:
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Band 2 Housekeeper to join our busy, dynamic surgical receiving ward at RAH Paisley, Ward 20. This role is integral to ensuring the smooth running of clinical services by maintaining a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment, while also overseeing procurement processes and supporting service improvements.
No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Heath and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours or more per week may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.

Shift Pattern - Monday - Friday
Base location - Royal Alexandra Hospital
Key responsibilities:
Procurement & Stock Control:
- Lead on ordering and managing stock and equipment (excluding medication).
- Monitor usage trends and maintain accurate records to prevent shortages.
- Ensure timely replenishment of clinic rooms and rotation of stock, checking expiry dates.
- Maintain organised storage areas and escalate procurement issues promptly.
Environmental Standards & Infection Control:
- Ensure cleanliness and appropriate storage of equipment and furnishings.
- Report and escalate repairs and damages via the FM system.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
Supervisory & Communication Duties:
- Provide daily updates to the Senior Charge Nurse and escalate concerns.
- Support junior staff and assist with training in stock management and cleaning protocols.
- Record and maintain daily and monthly cleaning schedules accurately.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Familiarity with Hospital Ward environments.
- Experience or ability to identify areas where service delivery at the ward level could be improved, assess the impact of reorganising service activity and navigate agreed change to a successful conclusion.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience of hospital cleaning practices, particularly of isolation areas.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the safe and appropriate use of all cleaning-related equipment.
- Demonstrate an ability to develop and maintain effective and efficient administrative, monitoring and recording systems and have an understanding of basic computer systems.
- Awareness and understanding of Hospital Acquired Infection principles and their prevention.
- Awareness and understanding of Food Hygiene principles.
The following training will be provided:
- Participate in the Divisional and Local Induction programme.
- Knowledge and understanding of Hospital and departmental policies that affect day-to-day activities, eg. Health & Safety, Moving & Handling, Infection Control, Environmental Cleanliness Standards, Monitoring Tools, Safety of Medical Gases, COSHH Regs, Fire Safety and Evacuation Training.
- Awareness of the Division’s policy on confidentiality and the Data Protection Act 1998 relating to information held manually or on computerised systems. They are required to respect the confidentiality and privacy of patients and staff at all times.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
