The Role

Job Purpose

provide a high quality mental health service to children and young people and their families within the CAMHS UCAMHS/CITT service. This includes working within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the department’s policies and procedures including –

  • The assessment of young people and their families referred to the Service
  • Co working with other members of the multidisciplinary Locality CAMHS team or under the direction of Team Leader or Charge Nurse in the provision of assessment and therapeutic interventions to these young people and their families utilising a range of therapeutic modalities as required. Physical observations as required. The post holder will be supported to work with the full range of presenting difficulties referred to the team.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

This post is based in the CAMHS Unscheduled/Intensive teams providing a service within the geographical area of Lanarkshire. The teams works in partnership with the locality CAMHS multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrist, clinical psychologists, Nursing and CAMHC’s.

NHS Lanarkshire CAMHS provide a service to infants, children and young people up to the age of 18 if they are still in secondary education. The service comprises:

  • Four Locality CAMHs Teams
  • UCAMHS (Unscheduled CAMHS)
  • CCEYP (CAMHS for Care Experienced Young People)
  • Reach Out (children impacted by parental mental ill health)
  • Paediatric Psychology Team
  • CITT (CAMHS Intensive Treatment Team)
  • Eating Disorder Team

In this key role, you will:

  • Apply values based practice principles such as those of respect and dignity, in all aspects of care and treatment and in interactions with colleagues
  • Implement the framework of the nursing process to participate in person centred assessment and participate in the development and implementation of client / patient care plan in accordance with operational policies for the defined clinical area, and under the clinical supervision of the named nurse (or equivalent), senior nursing staff and / or multidisciplinary team.
  • Use the framework of the Nursing Process to undertake assessment, of clients / patients in accordance with agreed operational policies for the defined clinical area, planning, implementing and evaluating the care plan in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and the client / patient
  • Ensure that changes in circumstances, which may affect delivery of care are reported to the team leader / senior charge nurse or practitioner or other senior members of the multidisciplinary team
  • In the absence of the charge nurse, team leader / senior charge nurse or practitioner, responsibility for coordination of the clinical team / area, specific groups and treatments for client/patient groups delegated and in agreement with / defined by the team leader / senior charge nurse or practitioner

What You'll Bring:

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
  • The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
