The role:
No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Heath and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.

As a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker, you will play a vital, hands‑on role within our Mental Health Inpatient Team, supporting adults and older adults during some of their most challenging moments. We are looking for caring, motivated and compassionate individuals who want to be part of a team that delivers safe, effective and person‑centred care. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be at the heart of supporting people who require mental health inpatient care, helping them feel safe, understood and supported throughout their stay. You must be able to work across any of our three Renfrewshire inpatient sites Dykebar Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Leverndale Hospital. Your initial base will be at one of these locations, and you may be required to rotate to another site in the future to meet service needs. This flexibility allows you to gain valuable experience across different ward environments. In this role, you will work closely with Registered Nurses and the wider team, contributing directly to assessments, delivering planned care, and supporting therapeutic work. You’ll build meaningful relationships with patients and carers, helping to promote recovery, wellbeing and dignity every step of the way.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Dykebar Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital & Leverndale Hospital
- There are two positions available in this post, one part-time (35.5hrs) and one full-time (36 hours)
- The shift pattern is rotational; we are currently working long days from 07.00 am to 7.30 pm. Our night duty starts at 19.00 until 07.30 am
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
Key responsibilities:
- You will carry out assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care in support of and in accordance with, the standards of care set by the Senior Charge Nurse/Nurse in Charge of the ward
- Contributing to risk assessment and risk management planning by identifying and reporting issues of concern to the named nurse/ nurse in charge and supporting multi-disciplinary team compliance with NHSGGC policy and procedures
- Identifying and responding to the health promotion needs of patients, focusing on improving the mental well-being of patients
- Identifying and responding to the needs of patients which might be related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, child protection and/or self-harm
- Demonstrating caring, compassionate, professional behaviour fostering trust and confidence in the service for people in your care
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- You should have knowledge and experience of working with people with mental health illnesses
- This post also requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland checks
- You should have effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
