NHS Grampian is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Advanced Practice Occupational Therapist to join our forward‑thinking Occupational Therapy service at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.

This newly created post represents a key development within our expanding Paediatric Hand Service, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to shape and lead specialist hand therapy provision for children and young people across Grampian.

Working closely with the Paediatric Plastic Surgeon and the Plastics Team, the successful post holder will develop this new role and contribute to the service development for the Occupational Therapy Paediatric Hands Service / Plastics Service at RACH.

About the Role

As an integral member of the specialist multidisciplinary Paediatric Hand Surgery Team, you will deliver expert assessment and intervention for children with congenital and acquired hand and wrist conditions, including:

  • Congenital differences
  • Hand trauma
  • Acute injuries
  • Elective surgery
  • Long‑term upper limb conditions

Your caseload will include referrals from primary care, emergency departments, minor injuries units, community paediatrics and a range of secondary care specialities.

This role includes opportunities to:

  • Work directly within the Paediatric Hand Clinic
  • Provide hand trauma review links with RACH Emergency Department
  • Lead an independent follow‑up hand trauma clinic
  • Develop and influence service pathways alongside the Paediatric Plastic Surgeon and wider OT team


What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist with:

  • Proven experience in paediatric or hand therapy practice
  • Highly developed skills in splinting, exercise prescription, wound care and radiographic interpretation
  • Strong leadership qualities to support continued service development
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Confidence working autonomously within a specialist clinical area

Leadership responsibilities include supervising OT staff and Health Care Support Workers, allocating caseloads, and deputising for the Lead Occupational Therapist as required.

Training of students will also be a core part of the role.

This post is worked across 4 days, Monday to Thursday, within the Paediatric Hand Surgery Team at RACH.
