The role:
We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for an individual who is passionate and experienced to join our small, enthusiastic Infant Feeding Team within the Children and Families Directorate of Inverclyde HSCP. The service is responsible for ensuring all pregnant people are supported in making choices regarding infant feeding, and people who choose to breastfeed are supported in the post-natal period for as long as they need the service. This is a permanent post that will require teamwork and a high level of communication skills. The role will include involvement in data collection and reporting for UNICEF Baby Friendly (Gold) and for the Programme for Government Scheme. It is therefore essential that you have excellent IT, computer and administrative skills. An ability to work on your own while being supported by staff is also required.
Candidates must have experience of breastfeeding, having undertaken UNICEF BFI courses or NHGGC or third sector peer support training programmes.
No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Health and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Port Glasgow Health Centre
- The shift pattern for this post is negotiable between Monday and Friday, 08:30 to 16:30
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
Key responsibilities:
- To support pregnant women and breastfeeding women throughout to promote and sustain breastfeeding, especially but not exclusively within the first 6 weeks following birth
- This support will also include appropriate weaning promotion and, on occasion, support for women in their choice to formula feed
- The support will take place in various venues, including local hospitals, clinics, support groups, online and women’s own homes, empowering women to breastfeed
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Training in baby massage, Bookbug,Sling wearing, and WHO growth charts would be advantageous
- A desire to complete HCSW/ MCA training
- Must have experience of working with breastfeeding women and families in the last 3 years
- Completion of UNICEF BFI breastfeeding management training
- Any further learning in breastfeeding, such as attending UNICEF BFI conferences, third sector or NHS peer training
- Experience of working unsupervised
- Experience of running groups
- Experience in running online social media groups
- Ability to work as part of a team and liaise with colleagues as required
- Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Commitment to ongoing personal development
- Driving licence
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours if required

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
