The role:

Glasgow City is the largest HSCP in Scotland by population and budget and is responsible for health and social care provision across 3 localities in the City; North West, North East and South Glasgow. North West locality covers a population of 206,483. Services Managed include, Health Visitors, District Nurses, local older people and physical disability services, Allied Health Professionals, Addiction, Learning Disability Services, Palliative Care, Local Adult Mental Health and Older People’s Services.

The rehabilitation team delivers a service that enables residents to maximise their health and independence through a coordinated approach by all disciplines.

The broad aims of the service will be:

Single Point of entry to access multi disciplinary rehabilitation and enablement services.

Service provision to address all levels of need, complexity and vulnerability

Shift in service delivery towards local community provision.

Development of patient centred pathways.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Part time

Shift Pattern - 2.5/7 within Mon – Fri weekday pattern with Occasional weekend working.(Flexible within 0830 – 1615 working day)

Base location - Community Centre for Health

Key responsibilities:

  • Accountable for all aspects of professional practice, including direct and indirect patient care.
  • Assess patient capacity for consent and work within legal frameworks when capacity is impaired.
  • Independently assess, analyse and diagnose using clinical/social information and evidence‑based tools
  • Involve patients in goal setting and treatment planning
  • Follow tissue viability and wound‑care standards.
  • Manage and prioritise podiatry caseloads, ensuring high‑quality care
  • Deliver podiatry treatment for adults with varied conditions and support staff to maintain standards.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi‑professional team.
  • Apply CPD learning to practice and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive clinical records and mandatory data.
  • Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to MDT members, external agencies, patients and carers.
  • Communicate effectively and contribute to case conferences, team meetings and discharge planning.

Case Coordination

  • Lead interdisciplinary goal‑setting for individual patients
  • Coordinate discharge planning and follow‑up decisions.
  • Balance clinical caseload with key‑working responsibilities to support waiting‑time management.
  • Collate and share essential information with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Liaise with external agencies, initiate referrals and lead case conferences.
  • Manage service discharge and arrange recall when required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Delegate tasks and supervise Band 5 Podiatrists and Team Assistants.
  • Ensure timely, accurate reports and discharge summaries.
  • Support systems for monitoring care standards and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate specialist expertise within and across services.
  • Organise and induct students; support service and personal development.
  • Identify service pressures and discuss solutions with the Team Leader.
  • Participate in clinical audit, effectiveness projects and policy review.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Ensure delivery of a comprehensive in‑service podiatry training programme.
  • Participate in podiatry and rehabilitation in‑service training.
  • Provide specialist teaching and advice to MDT members, carers, educational staff and external partners.
  • Deliver formal and informal teaching for podiatrists and assistants.
  • Contribute to training and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Maintain CPD and professional portfolio.
  • Apply current evidence to practice to ensure best‑practice interventions.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • The post-holder must have a formal qualification leading to entitlement to registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Podiatrist. This would normally be through a degree level qualification.
  • Post qualification experience with relevant post qualification experiences in specialist areas e.g. Elderly, Neurology, and Community.
  • The post-holder will be expected to be able to show evidence of post-qualification training and Continuing Professional Development relevant to the role including post-graduate courses or short-courses in relevant specialist areas of practice.
  • The post-holder would be expected to be fully familiar with local policies and procedures within 6 months of taking up post through a period of planned induction and supervision.
  • Knowledge of research methods and practice whilst not essential would be highly desirable as would experience of working in a multi-disciplinary community based setting would be highly desirable.
  • The post-holder must be computer literate at a basic level.
  • A current full driving licence is required.
  • The post-holder must be able to demonstrate an ability to manage a Podiatry clinical caseload effectively, co-ordinating services in the team and to contribute fully to the working of the multi-disciplinary team.
