The role:

The Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency Units caring for patients whose conditions range from single to multi-organ failure, who may require ventilator support, either invasively or non-invasively, cardiovascular support and renal support.

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses trained in general nursing or adult nursing of the NMC Register to join our enthusiastic and innovative team within the NHS GG&C, Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency service& High Acuity Unit Beatson Oncology Centre.

We are a tertiary referral unit for both Vascular, ENT and Renal services.

We are seeking motivated individuals with significant experience working within a Critical Care environment who strive to deliver patient-centred care to a high standard.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • This is a full-time post (36), rotational 12-hour shifts, day and night available Monday to Sunday.
  • This post will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital; however, you may be required to provide cover at other sites, including the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, in line with service requirements and rotational working.

Key responsibilities:

Using specialist skills, knowledge and experience, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care, while providing supervision and support to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

You will safely and effectively use specialist equipment and advanced therapies to care for patients with complex needs, including multi-organ failure. You will also use your expertise to troubleshoot and manage critical care equipment to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

You will be expected to work in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to all relevant policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.

You will actively participate in ward rounds, safety huddles and clinical handovers, ensuring accurate and up-to-date communication of each patient’s nursing and medical progress. You will contribute to clinical decision-making, supporting treatment planning and goal setting, whether facilitating recovery or providing compassionate end-of-life care.

You will promote and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff by responding effectively to clinical emergencies, adverse incidents and unpredictable events, while prioritising workload and supporting colleagues as required.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Significant post-registration experience in a Critical Care environment
  • Basic I.T. skills
