The role:

Working as a Domestic Assistant at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde offers the chance to make a meaningful difference every day. At the Vale Health and Care Centre, you’ll play an important role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical areas. You’ll be part of a supportive team of Domestic Assistants, working to nationally recognised cleaning standards and contributing directly to patient care by helping prevent infection and ensuring high-quality facilities. No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Health and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Two part-time positions available for 12.3 hours and 11.8 hours per week
  • 12.3 hour position, shift pattern - Monday and Thursday - 18:00 to 20:30. Friday - 18:00 to 20:20
  • 11.8 hour position, shift pattern - Monday, Tuesday and Thursday - 17:00 to 19:30. Wednesday - 17:00 to 19:18. Friday – 17:00 to 19.00
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours
  • There is a requirement for you to have a flexible approach to your daily routine


Key responsibilities:

  • As a Domestic Assistant, you’ll play an essential role in keeping the Vale Health and Care Centre clean, safe and welcoming for everyone who uses it
  • Your responsibilities will include delivering a high‑quality domestic service across a variety of clinical and non‑clinical areas, working to set cleaning schedules while maintaining a flexible approach to daily tasks
  • You’ll use cleaning agents and equipment safely and efficiently, follow infection control guidelines including colour‑coding systems, manage waste disposal appropriately, and respond quickly to any areas requiring attention after audits
  • The role also involves maintaining high personal hygiene and professionalism, wearing appropriate protective clothing, reporting faulty equipment, and contributing positively as part of a wider Facilities team
  • Every task you carry out helps support patient care and ensures the centre operates to the highest standards
  • Duties include cleaning all areas of our hospital, clinical and non-clinical locations - activities will include wet mopping, vacuuming, emptying bins, replenishing supplies, cleaning fixtures, and furniture and toilet/bathroom areas
  • There will be the use of economic and safe use of cleaning agents, following the manufacturer's recommended instructions


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • No formal qualifications are required for this role, as full induction training will be provided when you join NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
  • You’ll receive comprehensive guidance on all aspects of domestic services, including safe use of cleaning equipment, infection control practices, Health & Safety standards, manual handling, COSHH and working to national cleaning specifications
  • We’ll support you to build confidence in customer care and communication skills, and you’ll be encouraged to be flexible, adaptable and take pride in delivering a high‑quality service
