Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Clinical Lead)
Walk‑In Service: Out of Hours Urgent Care (GMED)
Band 8a | One session per week
The Walk‑In Service, hosted by the Out of Hours Primary Care (GMED) team, is seeking to appoint a Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Clinical Lead) to provide senior clinical leadership and professional oversight within this innovative urgent care service.
Walk‑In services provide same‑day access to urgent primary care without the need for a booked appointment and form part of a major national pilot programme funded by the Scottish Government, helping to shape future models of urgent and unscheduled care across Scotland.
This clinical leadership role (one session per week) is designed to complement existing clinical practice and would suit an experienced, established Advanced Nurse Practitioner with a strong interest in clinical leadership, governance and workforce development.
As Lead ANP (Clinical Lead), you will hold clinical line‑management responsibility for the Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioners and the Band 5 Triage Nurse, providing day‑to‑day professional leadership, supervision and guidance. This includes responsibility for clinical oversight, appraisal, performance management, rota coordination and the ongoing development of clinical competence, ensuring staff are supported to work confidently and safely within the Walk‑In model.
Working closely with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager and wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert clinical leadership, support standardisation of practice, contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement, and act as a senior clinical decision‑maker within the Walk‑In Service.
The post holder will work across all Walk‑In Service locations (Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray), ensuring a coordinated and consistent approach to clinical delivery and professional standards.
Commitment: One session per week (clinical leadership role)
Location: Aberdeen Health Village (with cross‑site working)
This role focuses on clinical leadership and professional governance rather than routine service delivery, and can be undertaken alongside an existing clinical post, subject to agreement.
Contract: Fixed term (12 months)
Salary: Band 8a (Agenda for Change), pro‑rata - one session per week
Interviews are in person at the Health Village on 15th May.
You must:
- Be a Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration
- Be a qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner, educated to Master’s level (or equivalent)
- Hold independent prescribing (V300) and advanced clinical assessment competencies
- Have significant experience working at advanced practice level, with demonstrable clinical leadership, supervision and workforce development experience
