The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and highly driven, experienced Radiographers to join our friendly and supportive teams in NHS GGC’s North East Sector Imaging Departments. Within the North East Sector, there is cross-site rotation based on a ‘hub and spoke’ model, enabling staff to develop breadth and depth of knowledge and skills across scheduled and unscheduled care. Rotation includes a selection of modalities, including Plain Film, CT, MRI, and Interventional Radiology at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary (Hub) and spoke sites, Stobhill ACH, and Glasgow Dental Hospital. Glasgow Royal Infirmary is a designated Trauma Centre with a busy ED Department. Specialities within the North East Sector include Orthopaedics, Urology, Surgery, Medicine, and Plastics. NHSGGC are committed to radiography role development and has one Consultant Reporting Radiographer, a Consultant Sonographer and Advanced Practice Mammographers. Across NHSGGC, we have a team of reporting radiographers and sonographers developing their roles in a variety of areas within Imaging, such as Ultrasound guided FNA and Arthrography.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- The hours of these posts are worked 5/7, 365 days per year including public holiday and include extended day working
- Part-time or Job Share applications will be considered
Key responsibilities:
- Justify, authorise and perform a wide range of diagnostic imaging examinations to deliver a high‑quality patient‑centred Radiology service
- Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team across acute, outpatient and specialist imaging areas including unsociable hours and out of hours cover
- Ensure radiation safety and compliance with IR(ME)R, Local Rules and departmental policies to minimise risk to patients, staff and the public
- Assess referrals, prioritise workload and adapt imaging techniques to meet individual patient needs and clinical urgency
- Provide senior support on shift, including supervision of Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, HCSWs and students to ensure safe and effective service delivery
- Maintain high standards of image quality, clinical evaluation, documentation and use of RIS and PACS systems
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, service improvement, training and continuous professional development
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- DCR or BSc Honours degree in Diagnostic Radiography
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Minimum of two years post‑qualification clinical experience as a Radiographer
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and commitment to professional and service development
- Proven ability to work confidently in acute and high‑pressure clinical environments
- Strong communication, organisational and decision‑making skills
- Willingness to undertake flexible working patterns and further specialist training including IV cannulation
