The Role

Working as part of a team in all aspects of preparation, cooking of food service, wash up and cleaning duties related to the provision of a high quality catering service to Patient, Staff, Visitors and Functions for NHS Lanarkshire.

The working pattern for this role is 2 shifts Days 06.30 - 14.00 & Back shift is either 10.30 - 18.00 or 11.00 - 19.00.

In this key role, you will:

  • Assist in the planning of menus and in the costing of menus and recipes with the head chef to achieve and maintain budgeted food cost percentages.
  • Have knowledge and awareness of therapeutic diets, Ethnic and Cultural catering for the population of Lanarkshire.
  • Keep up to date with industry changes in equipment, production methods and systems of work. Cooking and preparation of dishes, giving technical advice and guidance as necessary to subordinate staff.
  • Ensure that all dishes are produced to the required standards of quality and presentation prior to service. Deal with customer/Patient queries and complaints in accordance with NHS Lanarkshire Policy and Procedures.

What You'll Bring:

  • Intermediate Food Hygiene.
  • COSHH
  • Level of experience required: 3- 4 years in a busy Kitchen environment.
  • Health and safety and Food hygiene safety on the job training.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
