The role:
Specialist Biomedical Scientist working within the Haematology/Blood Transfusion Department at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Laboratories in Glasgow. The post is at AFC Band 6 and requires HCPC registration. The role involves contributing to a UKAS‑accredited service that complies with MHRA Blood Safety and Quality Regulations.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Laboratories, Glasgow (Haematology Department).
Hours: 36 hours per week.
Work pattern: Participation in a 7‑day shift system, including evenings, weekends and overnight duties once fully trained.
Key responsibilities:
Working as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
Participating in a shift rota to support 24/7 service needs.
Maintaining compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and MHRA Blood Safety and Quality Regulations.
Engaging in continuing professional development (CPD).
Contributing to a high‑quality diagnostic service within the department.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
Specialist-level training and competence in Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion.
Previous experience in a Haematology/Blood Transfusion laboratory is highly desirable.
