The role:
We are looking for a compassionate and competent individual to join our Hospital at Night (HaN) Team within GRI. This is a part time post with the expectation of covering two nights per week. Current venepuncture and cannulation skills as part of your role at expert level are essential to apply for this post.
We are looking for individuals with well-developed communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
As part of the multidisciplinary team you will provide high standards of care to patients out of hours by supporting a range of activities central to the HaN service. You will work closely with the hospital clinical coordinator and will be required to work without direct supervision while carrying out a range of clinical tasks in the course of your duties i.e. venepuncture, cannulation, updating TrakCare requests, performing ECGs and administration and clerical tasks as required. This post covers the majority of wards within the hospital. Flexible working is an essential part of the role. Shift pattern will be discussed at interview. Informal discussion welcomed.
No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Health and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities:
- The post holder will support and participate in the delivery of a range of patient care procedures and interventions, as well as providing direct care to patients as required.
- Carries out a range of diagnostic tests and clinical tasks without direct supervision e.g. cannulation, ECG, venepuncture, process blood tests using near patient testing systems / equipment.
- Undertakes and records patient observations e.g. temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, urinary output and reports findings to Hospital at Night team and nurse in charge of ward / department.
- Undertakes a range of clinical activities and treatments which are delegated by the Hospital at Night team.
- Assists in planning, delivering and evaluating programmes of care to meet the meet the individual needs of patients.
- Monitors and records fluid balance of patients as required.
- Attends Cardiac Arrest calls if asked to. Carriers out investigatory procedures and obtains specimens as required e.g. urinalysis, urine collections.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Training and/or qualification(s) required
- Educated to GCSE or equivalent
- Health Care Assistant training / SVQ equivalent or possess highly competent skills in extended practice e.g. phlebotomy, cannulation,
- ECG recording
- Skilled with experience of carrying out venepuncture and cannulation particularly in patients with difficult venous access and sick and
- deteriorating patients.
- Effective communication skills both verbal / written
- Able to work as part of team as well as work unsupervised
