The role:
As part of Unscheduled Care within the whole system of Community Mental Health Services the post holder must be a registrant of the NMC and will work closely with all disciplines/agencies. The post holder will provide a service for individuals with complex mental health, physical and social care needs who present in crisis who may require additional home treatment/care intervention over a 24hr period, also providing a specialist mental health service into the Mental Health Assessment Units and Emergency Departments within the General Hospital setting. The post holder is expected to provide specialist advice to multi-disciplinary staff including Consultant medical staff. The service provides assessment and access to mental health inpatient beds over a 24hr period throughout GG&C. This includes arranging hospital admission for a patient should this be required. Due to the rapid response nature of Unscheduled Care, the post-holder will respond appropriately to patient need and will be responsible for prioritizing their own and junior staff’s workload and utilising resources appropriately to ensure all patient needs are met. They will be accountable to the Nurse in Charge and on occasion will be required to cover for them in their absence. They will be supported by the Nurse Team Leader. The service operates over a 24hr period and has 2 bases across NHS GG&C which will require the post holder to cross cover from their base when necessary.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Leverndale Hospital / Stobhill Hospital
- Permanent Contract
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post rotational across 24 hours
Key responsibilities:
- The holistic assessment of care needs including risk assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.
- Carrying out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the needs of individual patients in the least restrictive and disruptive manner as possible.
- Identifying and responding to the health promotion needs of patients focusing on improving the mental and physical well-being of patients
- Identifying and responding to the needs of patients which might be related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, child protection and/ or self harm.
- Recognises the principles of the quality dignity and respect which takes into account spiritual and cultural diversity.
- Working within agreed competency based parameters undertake evidence based psychological therapies/ psychological approaches to care with individuals and/ or group settings where required.
- Work in partnership with patients and carers using values based practice to deliver person centred care promoting and supporting mental well being and prevention of relapse

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse - level 1 NMC registration
- Educated to minimum degree level/ or equivalent experience
- Specialist knowledge and application of mental health nursing care for people with complex / unstable care needs
- Specialist knowledge and application of risk assessment/ risk management factors impacting on metal health/ mental illness/ wellness and recovery for people with complex/ unstable care needs
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Evidence of Line Management Supervision/ Clinical Supervision and care coordination of senior staff
Desirable:
- Completion of an evidence based psychological therapies / psychological approaches to care (formal programme of study)
- Completion of frontline leadership/ management programme
- Actively working towards or above postgraduate level/ or equivalent
- Experience of working in the community environment
