An opportunity is available at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary, a purpose built state of-the-art hospital located in the south west of Scotland, for a Specialty Doctor in Orthopaedics.

The successful applicant will join a team, which comprises eight Consultants, one Associate Specialist, and eight middle grade Doctors (including this post). A 24-hour trauma service is provided at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) where in-patient facilities are provided for elective and trauma cases.

The role will include providing support in the provision of:

  • Theatre sessions
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Trauma Clinics
  • Clinical admin
  • Ward round
  • SPA


Experience in Orthopaedic Surgery will be required to enable the successful applicant to function competently within the team.

Dumfries and Galloway’s Orthopaedic service is well developed and includes the provision of joint replacement, arthroscopy, upper limb and paediatric surgery (excluding spinal surgery). The service provides a range of outpatient services (with plaster and x-ray facilities) and is also supported by Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Orthotic services.

Eligibility criterion: Essential - All candidates must be fully registered with the GMC, have MRCS/ FRCS/ equivalent and have completed two years of training in orthopaedics at registrar/equivalent level. Desirable- UK experience, valid ATLS, AO basic course.
