Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Consultant based at Elgin House, Ailsa Hospital. This post is offered on a fixed-term / secondment basis for 1 year.

Hours:

36 hours per week.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you will do:

In line with the National Discharge Without Delay and Home First approach, Community Nursing is key to South Ayrshire HSCP’s approach to prevention, supporting and managing individuals in their own home with a focus of reducing demand on both primary and acute care and specifically step up and step down models. This post provides a leadership role to a growing community nursing staff group supporting advanced practice across community, primary and urgent care nursing.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Educated to degree level
  • Higher Degree – Master’s Degree or evidence of attainment of Masters level education, working towards achievement of the full Master’s degree or the equivalent level of knowledge and skill acquired through lengthy specialist experience
  • You will be a specialist / or Advanced practitioner.
  • Significant experience of working at a senior level in the delivery of complex care within community, primary care or acute settings
  • Extensive clinical experience in the care of unwell patients at a senior level
  • Experience of specialist interventions in the assessment, management and treatment of patients
  • Experience of practice and service development
  • Experience of teaching/education of others
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Extensive experience of report writing
  • Evidence of demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to facilitate these to others
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject area including interventions and treatments appropriate to care group
  • You will be registered with the NMC, in Independent and Supplementary prescribing V300
  • Expert in the assessment, treatment and management of the unwell patient and the delivery of appropriate care
  • Extensive Knowledge and experience as an Advanced or specialist practitioner, with a proven track record
  • Ability to undertake/lead research programmes
  • Evidence of service improvement related to advanced practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to delivering clinical improvement, enthusiasm in the face of multiple demands
  • Resilience in facing dynamic, adaptive environment
  • Motivated to deliver contemporary care and treatment interventions in Community, Primary Care and out of hours services
  • Knowledge of national policy in area of Advanced Practice and wider emergency services
