SUMMER STUDENT PLACEMENT – PHYSIOTHERAPY

Band 2 £26,696 - £28,988 per annum

Distant Islands Allowance of £1,461 per annum

Fixed Term 3-4 months

35hrs per week

The Physiotherapy Department is based in the Western Isles Hospital and provides a service across the whole of the Western Isles. The NHS Western Isles Physiotherapy service exists to deliver high quality care to patients and their carers.

The key responsibilities of the service are to provide triage, assessment, diagnosis and treatment to a diverse range of conditions and patient types in a variety of environments. There is also a key role in health promotion. All staff within the Physiotherapy Service must comply with NHS Western Isles and Departmental policies in addition to complying with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Professional Standards and Rules of Professional Conduct.

We are looking to recruit a summer student to assist with some project work and administrative functions. This will include:

  • Assisting physiotherapy staff with patients both in hospital and in the community
  • Data gathering and report writing to assist us with service planning and delivery, e.g. record keeping audit
  • Assisting physiotherapists with the review of documents
  • General administrative tasks


This placement would be suitable for those that are studying physiotherapy or sports, exercise or health-related subject. You should have excellent communication skills and be confident in taking general enquiries. You will be required to have an eye for detail and be competent using MS office packages. It is essential that you can maintain confidentiality as you will be dealing with sensitive, personal information.

The hours will be up to 35 hr per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30 – 4.00 with a 30 minute lunch break, the hours are negotiable. All summer student placements are paid on Band 2 and are for a fixed term period of 3-4 months.
