Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tissue Viability Nurse (Band 6) to work within our Care Home Professional Support Team based at Ailsa Hospital NHS Ayrshire & Arran. Here is more information about our team https://youtu.be/dl9kFxUnv-0

It is essential that you are a registered nurse with the NMC and have a minimum of 2 years practice post registration.

Hours:

36 Hours per week (full time) Monday to Friday.

This post is offered on a permanent basis.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you will do:

The post holder will be part of the Care Home Professional Support Team (CHPST) and provide professional nursing support, advice, education and supervision to the staff working in Older People and Adult Care Homes in Ayrshire & Arran.

This role, will link with the Tissue Viability Team and work in close partnership to support leadership and direction of strategic, professional and clinical nursing development and innovation in Tissue Viability in all Care Homes NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

The post holder will be required to carry out a thorough holistic patient assessment and provide specialist clinical advice to a range of professionals including GPs, registered general nurses, mental health nurses and other health professionals on wound management and related therapies. The advice can include the appropriate use of equipment to support wound healing.

The post holder will require to work independently managing their own diary and have the ability to drive, using their own car, to community locations/ care homes throughout Ayrshire and Arran.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

To undertake this position, you must hold a degree. It is essential that you can demonstrate post registration education in Tissue Viability or are working towards. The candidate must have a good knowledge/experience of pressure ulcer prevention and management and acute/chronic complex wounds.

The delivery of evidence based practice will be demonstrated through education provided by the Tissue Viability Nurse for Care Homes, therefore the post holder must keep their knowledge and skills up to date on a regular basis.

The post holder will need to know and have experience of Quality Improvement methodologies to support, deliver and demonstrate changes in practice that can be sustained.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential to help exert a positive influence and develop constructive working relationships across Health and Social Care Partnership Services with a wide range of clinical and non-clinical staff and individuals.
