NHS Grampian is seeking an innovative and forward thinking Consultant in Public Health Medicine / Consultant in Public Health to join our progressive Team.

This is a permanent post for 10 sessions (40 hours Medical and Dental, 36 hours Agenda for Change) per week, based in the beautiful North East of Scotland. There is much to attract individuals and families to the area, with outstanding scenery including beaches, mountains and Royal Deeside. The high quality educational facilities and exciting culture, sport and entertainment available ensure that once here, the North East of Scotland is a home forever.

The Public Health Directorate is an integrated collaborative team of Consultants, Nurse Specialists, Public Health Practitioners, Public Health Analysts, Public Health Researchers, Public Health Managers, and Public Health Academics, with established multi-agency working arrangements in place with partners including Local Authorities, Environmental Health, Education Authorities, Health and Social Care, and more.

We are seeking a Consultant in Public Health Medicine / Consultant in Public Health to join our Health Protection Team (indicative sessions 5 PA) and to provide Population Health Screening Programme Coordination (indicative sessions 3 PA).

Successful candidates will be given time to undertake supporting professional activities including training and teaching or to pursue sub-specialty interests. Continuing professional development and research is important to us. We can offer a generous study leave package and the opportunity to develop academic links with the University of Aberdeen, with whom we have several joint appointments.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.


Candidates applying as a non-medical candidate must be registered as a specialist on the UK Public Health Register.

Successful non-medical candidates are appointed on Agenda for Change T&Cs at Band 8D

You will be employed on either: NHS (Scotland) Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and Doctors in Public Health and the Community Health Service terms and conditions; or NHS (Scotland) Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, depending on your background and professional registration status.
