Working in NHSGGC, you will be part of a service that is firmly grounded in a multidisciplinary team approach, with the patient always at the centre of care. The service is designed to support and empower patients and carers to make informed choices, delivering a high‑quality and innovative level of specialist care across hospital, community and home settings. You will work alongside a dynamic, motivated and award‑recognised multidisciplinary team, contributing to meaningful improvements in patient outcomes while developing your expertise within a respected specialist service.

  • Gartnavel General Hospital
  • Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00


Key responsibilities:

  • The post holder will act as a specialist resource in the management of people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD)
  • The post holder’s duties will encompass working as part of a multidisciplinary team and will work closely with patients, carers, consultants, GP’s, other health care professionals and the voluntary sector, providing a high level of specialist knowledge and support in PD management
  • The post holder will take a lead role and contribute to the clinical management of people with PD - specifically in respect of diagnosis, symptom management and treatment options
  • Involvement in developing and delivering teaching programmes for all staff, members of the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers is expected
  • The Movement Disorder Nurse Specialist will assist in conducting practitioner-led clinics and medical clinics, as well as visiting patients at home/nursing home / in patient settings
  • This will ensure a high standard of support and advice during the disease process and times of medication changes to ensure optimum control of symptoms
  • A telephone service with an answering machine is another well-used mechanism for patients to keep in touch with the Movement Disorder Nurse Specialist between appointments if problems arise or advice is required


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Evidence of further education including postgraduate certification and/or continuous professional development in relevant areas of practice, with educational preparation aligned to a Level 6 CNS role, including a minimum of 60 credits at SCQF level 10 (Honours level)
  • In‑depth specialist knowledge of Parkinson’s Disease and movement disorders, including diagnosis, symptom progression, treatment options and complex medication management
  • Strong understanding of evidence‑based practice, national guidelines and clinical standards relevant to movement disorder care across hospital and community settings
  • Knowledge of holistic, person‑centred assessment and care planning for patients with complex and long‑term neurological conditions, including supporting carers and families
  • Advanced knowledge of multidisciplinary team working, care coordination and integrated pathways across primary, secondary and third sector services
  • Understanding of patient education, counselling principles and communication strategies to support informed decision‑making and self‑management
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, audit, research and service evaluation, with the ability to use data, dashboards and documentation systems to monitor and improve quality of care
