We are recruiting a Charge Nurse post within Care of the Elderly at Gartnavel General Hospital. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to help lead, implement & evaluate standards of good nursing care within our service. Ward 2a GGH is a 24-bedded Older Peoples Rehabilitation ward- the team cares for some of the most dependent and vulnerable patients within the Hospital, who require ongoing rehabilitation and the specialist care of a Geriatrician.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Gartnavel General Hospital
- 11.5 hour days and nights on a rotational basis
Key responsibilities:
- Provide visible clinical leadership on the ward, ensuring high‑quality, safe and person‑centred care is delivered to patients and their families
- Lead the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based care, tailoring care to individual needs, backgrounds and circumstances
- Act as deputy to the Ward Manager, supporting the day‑to‑day management of the ward and contributing to service delivery and improvement
- Supervise, support and develop registered nurses, healthcare support workers and learners, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture
- Manage resources efficiently, including staffing, equipment and supplies, to ensure the ward operates safely and effectively
- Promote open communication with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team, providing reassurance, empathy and clear information
- Contribute to education, audit and quality improvement activities, supporting a learning environment and maintaining high professional standards
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- First Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and a minimum of two years post‑registration experience
- Relevant post‑registration experience or qualification within the specialty, with the knowledge and skills to support safe and effective practice at Band 6 level
- Sound understanding of evidence‑based nursing practice, clinical governance and quality improvement within an acute or ward‑based setting
- Knowledge of NHS and NHSGGC policies, procedures, health and safety legislation, and professional standards set by the NMC
- Experience of supervising and supporting staff, students or learners, with the ability to motivate and develop others
- Strong organisational and decision‑making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, reflective practice and delivering high‑quality, compassionate care
