The role:
This is an exciting opportunity to support and deliver on a number of key communications priorities including the management and delivery of visits, supporting the management of the annual celebrating success and working across a busy communications team to ensure the delivery of integrated communications campaigns to help services and the organisation achieve its goals.
We are looking for an experienced communications professional comfortable with the design, delivery and implementation of communications campaigns, including measurement. They should also be comfortable working with senior leadership including the executive team to deliver our events programme – working with senior stakeholders externally to manage an ongoing programme of visits. The post-holder will also be responsible for planning and delivering the annual staff awards event in October.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
This post is a secondment opportunity for 3 months to support the corporate communications function at NHSGGC, based at JB Russell House, Gartnavel Royal Hospital, G12 0XH.
The shift pattern is Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
Key responsibilities:
- Provides advice on communications strategies to the Board, the Chief Executive and Senior Managers within the organisation in relation public affairs.
- Formulate communication plans for NHSGG&C, adjusting these as issues arise. Will be required to work closely with the Deputy Director and Director of Communications and Engagement to support operational planning to deliver the department objectives.
- Dealing with a major incident or emergency when they arise, which includes supporting the Director of Communications in coordinating a press response from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, liaison with other agencies to ensure that all press statements are consistent and signed off by the lead agency, organising interviews with key Health staff, keeping Health staff and staff from other agencies informed, attending meetings about the incident/emergency.
- Supports the Deputy Director of Communications and Engagement to review communication policies and strategies
- Responsible for the annual Celebrating Success Awards budget.
- Managing a range of ministerial and elected representative visits to the Health Board, including oversight of internal visit programme.
- Lead on the delivery of the annual awards, including securing future funding and governance.
- Emergency Planning: the Communications Manager is required to be a member of the Greater Glasgow, multi-agency Emergency Planning communications group, which looks at the continued development of multi-agency working in the event of a major incident or emergency
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Knowledge of communications, public relations, journalism and marketing communications techniques, approaches, procedures, health service communications,
- Experience and knowledge of effective organisation for a busy high profile communications function
- Knowledge of project management techniques and applications
- Can demonstrate knowledge of the external political environment
- Authoritative knowledge of the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act and the workings of the Scottish legal system
- The knowledge base for this post will be gained through training to degree level or equivalent, plus additional training and/or experience in communications field to master’s level equivalent
- Motivational skills allied to strong negotiating skills are an essential feature for this role
