Wards 68 is part of a regional service that is provided to the west of Scotland. The department provides a 7 day acute Neurology service. The opportunity has arisen to join the team within Neurology at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, QEUH. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic staff nurse to join ward 68.This 19 bedded ward provides acute neurology care as part of the Neuroscience Service to the West of Scotland.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.
As part of the multi-disciplinary team, and without supervision, you will be responsible for assessing, implementing and evaluating programmes of nursing care and in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse or deputy, manage the ward effectively on a regular basis. You must be a registered nurse. Experience in the field of neurology nursing is preferred, but not essential. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to patient-centred care, continuing professional development, an understanding of our service, and the specific needs of our patients (or a commitment to learn and develop these skills). You will demonstrate flexibility, and a willingness to participate in service progression and growth.
The ability to work effectively in a team is essential. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Adult Nurse with the NMC as holding current full professional registration is an essential requirement for the post, candidates who do not complete the professional registration section of the application form or who do not hold current full registration may not be considered for shortlisting. This post requires membership of Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- There are 2x permanent, part-time posts available at 34.19 and 22.32 hours per week.
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
- Both posts are based at Neurology Ward 68, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
- You will work rotational 12-hour shifts to cover the 24/7 service.
- The shift pattern is Monday-Sunday, dayshift and nightshift 0715-19:30/19:15-07:30.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients to ensure delivery of a high standard of care.
- In the absence of the 6/7 grade, take charge of the department for the management of daily responsibilities, including work allocation, deployment and supervision of staff, to ensure smooth running of the area.
- Maintains effective communication with patients, relatives/carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met.
- Monitors standards of care within defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the ward and Division to ensure adherence to, and delivery of, a high quality service.
- Leads and supervise/mentor junior staff/students who are providing care to patients and act as a source of advice to ensure their educational needs are met.
- Undertakes teaching of registered/non-registered nursing staff, including basic and post-basic students, and participate in the implementation of staff personal development plans to facilitate ongoing development
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Registered Nurses on the NMC Register (Part 1 & 12)
- Relevant clinical experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
