An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and inspirational Clinical Nurse Manager – Theatres to join National Elective Services (NES). This is a pivotal senior nursing leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape, lead and continuously improve perioperative services within this National service.

Reporting to the Head of Nursing, you will provide professional leadership and accountability for the theatre department, driving excellence across safe, effective and person‑centred care, in line with Scotland’s national quality ambitions.

It is an exciting time to join NHS Golden Jubilee University NationalHospital. As part of a significant investment we have expanded our hospital site to include new theatre provision. The department provides a national elective and heart and lung service to patients requiring surgery for cardiac, thoracic, general, colorectal, eyes and orthopaedic specialities including robotic surgery.

Working within a triumvirate leadership model, alongside the Theatre Service Manager and Clinical Directors, you will play a central role in operational delivery, workforce planning, quality improvement and strategic development of theatre services.


About the Role

As Clinical Nurse Manager – Theatres, you will hold 24‑hour professional accountability for all peri‑operative areas, leading a large and diverse workforce of approximately 310 WTE staff.

You will:

  • Provide visible, values‑based professional leadership across perioperative services
  • Champion high‑quality, safe and compassionate care for patients and families
  • Lead and support quality assurance, patient safety and clinical effectiveness programmes, including the Scottish Patient Safety Programme and 5 Steps to Safer Surgery
  • Drive workforce development, succession planning and staff wellbeing within a fast‑paced, high‑demand environment
  • Contribute to Board‑wide nursing strategy, service redesign and national initiatives

This role offers significant scope to influence practice locally and nationally, contributing to innovation, service transformation and the future shape of perioperative care in Scotland.


What We’re Looking For

You will be a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner, with:

  • Significant senior leadership and management experience in a relevant specialty
  • Evidence of Master’s level study (or working towards)
  • Proven track record in quality improvement, service redesign and patient safety
  • Strong understanding of workforce planning, financial and resource management
  • Experience of leading large multidisciplinary teams through change
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, resilience and professional credibility

A management or leadership qualification and formal Quality Improvement training are desirable.
