The Role

To support the primary care prescribing team in promoting safe, effective and economic use of medicines by:

Working with practices and locality prescribing advisers to identify specific prescribing initiatives to be undertaken that are in line with primary care prescribing action plans.

Promoting an understanding of the appropriate use of medicines and associated resources.

Working autonomously under the direction of the locality prescribing adviser to carry out audits, analyse data, prepare reports and implement change in prescribing practice.

Working autonomously under the direction of the Advanced Clinical Services Pharmacists (ACSPs), Prescribing Support Pharmacists (PSPs) and Foundation Pharmacists (FPs) to deliver the pharmacotherapy service as detailed in GMS contract


In this key role, you will:

To collect and collate patient related prescribing and clinical data from practice computer systems and/or patients’ notes

To identify and highlight areas where patient prescribing management requires intervention and to make relevant recommendations to the practice in support of reviews related to priority areas.

To create reports and letters for GP surgeries detailing work undertaken, outcomes and recommendations e.g. audit data, patient data collection and staff training.

To implement agreed prescribing changes to ensure high quality and cost effective prescribing

Support practices in performing audits related to medicine use and patient reviews in line with locality and practice priorities


What You'll Bring:

Pharmacy technician, NVQ3 or BTEC in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent

Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Current UK Driving Licence

Experience and knowledge of medicines management

Ability to work with limited supervision

Awareness of legislation and good practice related to prescribing, storage and handling of medicines

Clinical understanding of medicines use

Evidence of good analytical skills

Good written and verbal communication skills

A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
