Due to retirement, the Blood Sciences Department at NHS Highland, require a Senior Biomedical Scientist with training responsibility to join our friendly, dedicated and professional team.

Candidates must have an IBMS Specialist portfolio or MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, 5 years post qualifications, and/or suitable experience at band 6 level. Individuals must also have experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory. Biochemistry experience is a must and Training experience is desirable.

The post is based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness but individual in post is required to provide technical and training support to the laboratories at Caithness General, Belford Hospital and Lorn and Islands General Labs.

The Biochemistry section of the Blood Science Department is equipped with Siemens Atellica CH and IM analysers and offers experience in routine & specialist analyses. In addition, the role will include HbA1c analysis using Tosoh G11 HPLC, Osmolality and CSF Xanthochromia.

The department provides a tertiary centre for NHS Highland due to the unique location of the hospital, handling specimens from a very wide geographic area including Skye and the Western Isles. The Blood Science department at Raigmore handles over 5 million tests per annum.

  • Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
