The role:

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Charge Nurse/ODP Band 7 to join our dynamic Recovery service with North Sector. North sector recovery comprises of main, plastics, gynaecology recovery and same day admissions unit with 26 theatres at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and main recovery with 6 theatres at Stobhill ACH with over 12 different surgery specialities. We are looking for a strong, compassionate leader who is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred perioperative care and inspiring a culture of clinical excellence and continuous improvement. You must be able to work autonomously and part of a team to make clinical decisions and mange competing priorities effectively. You should also be committed to developing a recovery team that fosters a positive and inclusive environment.

You will play a key role in leading staff ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, clinical effectiveness and staff wellbeing across our busy recovery suite. Main duties and responsibilities will be to provide visible, effective leadership within the recovery suite, ensuring the smooth day to day running of recovery services. Provide support and oversee staff in delivering safe, evidence based care in line with board policies and standards. Be able to manage and coordinate recovery activity, staff rotas and resources to meet clinical demand efficiently. You will act as clinical expert and role model for staff, promoting professional development, education and mentorship within the team. You will be responsible for driving quality improvement initiatives and supporting implementation of new policies. You will contribute to governance processes including audit, risk management, incident review and health and safety.

Preferred candidates should possess clinical expertise within Recovery of at least 5 years mostly at Band 6 level. The successful candidate will be offered a supported induction period with administrative support. This administrative support will be in place to allow you as a Senior Charge Nurse/ODP to meet clinical targets and increase visibility within the teams. It is also essential that you have evidence of continual development, IT skills, good communication skills and enthusiasm for working in a fast paced Recovery environment.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Stobhill Hospital
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full-time position (36 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of person-centred care, which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others

  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.

  • Accountable for the provision and monitoring of a safe clinical environment.

  • Ensure the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement Standards.

  • Ensure completion of clinical appraisals for pre and post registration nurses and healthcare support staff

  • Lead performance appraisals in line with policy.

  • Demonstrate own professional development.

  • Lead and identify research/clinical audit priorities in conjunction with relevant professional groups.

  • Lead the development of the research/clinical audit plan for the ward/department.

  • Provide guidance, supervision and support for staff undertaking research, audit or teaching activities.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • First Level Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience.
  • 2 years experience and appropriate post registration qualification/relevant experience in specialty
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
  • Ability to ensure HIS compliance within clinical area.
