The role:

No Band 2 roles are eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa or Health and Care Worker visa. routes. For Band 3 roles, only posts of 32 hours per week or more may meet eligibility. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) cannot provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for roles that do not meet these criteria, and applications requiring sponsorship will not be considered.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and motivated Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join our Inpatient Mental Health Services within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This role is central to supporting people during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, delivering recovery focused and person centred care. You will work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, building trusting therapeutic relationships with patients and carers. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Stobhill Hospital
  • 4/7 shifts per week, including night shift, public holidays and weekends


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and support to patients in line with agreed care plans and recovery-focused approaches
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support safe and effective inpatient mental health care
  • Contribute to risk assessment and risk management by identifying and reporting concerns promptly
  • Support patients with physical and mental health needs, daily activities and health promotion
  • Build professional and therapeutic relationships with patients and carers based on dignity, respect and compassion
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure effective communication across the care team
  • Promote a safe clinical environment by adhering to policies on health and safety, infection control and confidentiality


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Educated to or working towards SVQ Level 3 or SCQF Level 6 or equivalent experience
  • Experience within a health, mental health or social care setting is desirable
  • Understanding of mental health issues and person-centred care principles
  • Ability to work independently while recognising professional boundaries and supervision requirements
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships
  • Commitment to the Health Care Support Worker Code of Conduct and professional standards
  • Competence in using digital systems and willingness to develop skills through training and supervision
