The role:
Here at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, we are currently recruiting for a Specialist Paediatric Core MRI Radiographer.
This post provides an ideal opportunity to be involved in the clinical imaging of a full range of paedaitric specialities including, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Cardiac and Foetal Medicine and Research studies. A proportion of the imaging is performed under General Anaesthesia so the post holder can expect to be working closely with multidisciplinary paediatric anaesthetic teams. The hospital provides a large number of specialist services to the West of Scotland and the wider population of Scotland in addition to the full range of secondary care services to people of Greater Glasgow and Clyde. For a number of these services, the children's hospital is recognised as the sole provider in Scotland.
The Radiology department strives to provide excellent patient focussed care while providing an innovative learning environment which will allow the successful candidate to develop exceptional skills and knowledge in a wide range of specialist paediatric examinations.
If successful in your application, you will be required to participate in 7 day working over 365 days. It is essential you have a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography / Imaging Sciences with current registration with the HCPC. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Royal Hospital for Children
- Permanent Contract
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Sunday to Sunday - can be rostered 24/7 including public holidays
Key responsibilities:
Assess and understand a wide range of clinical information from a variety of clinical or specialist disciplines and perform examinations autonomously making decisions about the need for further imaging to aid diagnosis, taking into account any pathology identified on the images. This minimises the need to recall patients.
Ensure that images acquired are accurate and diagnostic in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards / requirements, taking into account patient limitations, adapting technique where necessary to gain optimum imaging. Maintain a high level of expertise in the safe operation of specialist MRI equipment, demonstrate a high level of competency and understanding in a range of specialist procedures and manage faults effectively
Act independently in the assessment of referrals for MRI examinations, taking full responsibility for the justification in accordance with Department protocols
Work within GG&C Health Board policies to ensure maintenance of a safe working environment. Adhere to the relevant MRHA legislation following the Local rules and Standard Operating Procedures
Work as part of a team to ensure effective communication with patients, relatives, carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring any observed changes in the patient’s condition are effectively communicated and prioritise workload depending on the severity of a patient condition and the direct impact on their management.
Act as a point of advice for radiology staff, imaging referrers and ward staff on radiographic issues i.e. clinical suitability for procedure, MR safety / compatibility
Patients will have injuries or illness’s that require the adaptation of the imaging technique and utilisation of developed motivational and persuasive skills to acquire accurate positioning and reduced mobility to produce an optimal diagnosis with minimal dose.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- D.C.R. or BSc in Radiography
- HCPC Registration.
- Evidence of post graduate education or equivalent experience demonstrating specialist clinical skills required within the role for example a post graduate qualification in MRI
- Short courses to enhance efficiency such as venepuncture
- Evidence of ongoing educational and personal development.
- Good communication skills
- Team worker.
