Post: Specialist Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist – Wheelchair & Seating
An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join the Wheelchair & Seating Service’s (WSS) Children’s Therapist Team at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Centre (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland.
The post holder will provide patient-focused assessment and prescription of manual and powered wheelchairs and postural supports utilising specialist levels of decision making and clinical judgement to maximise function and independence with appropriate pressure relief and management. Knowledge of wheelchairs and seating would be an advantage, training will be provided as required. Post graduate experience working within paediatrics required.
The post holder will provide advice, education and training to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, external healthcare professionals, other agencies, carers, clients and relatives. The post holder will participate in quality management and improvement activities within the service.
The advert is for a permanent position of 21.6 hours over 3 days.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
