NHS Lanarkshire is thrilled to announce exciting opportunities for Modern Apprenticeships in Maintenance at University Hospital Monklands.
Annex 21 - As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions so you will be paid 60% of the salary in year 1. Your salary will be reviewed annually in accordance with the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, ensuring fair and structured progression throughout your apprenticeship.
If successful, you will be appointed on a salary aligned with the Scottish National Living Wage.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will transition to the appropriate salary scale for the role, reflecting your new qualifications and responsibilities.
Key Details: 
Location: University Hospital Monklands
Wage: Band 5 (£34,544 - £43,039)
Duration: Fixed term post for 4 years starting from the 18th of August 2026 for 36 hours each week.
Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1st August 2026, (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with *care experience) are eligible.
Must have National 5 (or equivalent) qualifications in the following subjects at grade A or B; English, Maths, Physics and Technological subject

What We Offer: 
Training: Gain invaluable on-the-job training to develop a diverse range of Maintenance skills. 
Qualification: Work towards achieving a SCQF Level 7 qualification in Service Maintain and Commission Building Services, with Glasgow Kelvin College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
Support: You will be well supported on this Modern Apprenticeship Programme with a dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.
What We're Looking For: 
Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Modern Apprenticeship Programme. 
Skills: Strong communication, ability to prioritise tasks and work in a fast-paced hands-on environment. IT skills would be an advantage, along with the ability to understand various procedures and processes and follow health and safety guidelines.
Interest: A particular interest in maintenance roles, coupled with a positive attitude towards work and professional development. 
Duties as a Maintenance Technician may include: 
Diagnose, repair, and maintain engineering and building services (e.g. electrical, water, HVAC) to ensure statutory compliance.
Carry out planned preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance, completing all required documentation.
Follow NHS Lanarkshire health & safety policies and contribute to continuous improvement via the Health & Safety Forum.
Perform minor alterations and modifications to building systems safely and in line with procedures.
Respond to urgent issues (e.g. faults, infestations), ensuring safe, sensitive handling around patients, staff, and visitors.
Coordinate contractors and other trades to minimise disruption and maintain safe working environments.
Conduct electrical testing and complete certifications in line with regulations.
Manage daily workload, prioritise tasks, and support/mentor others where required.
Maintain specialised systems (e.g. WOS Laundry equipment and controls).
Participate in on-call rota to respond to out-of-hours emergencies.
No Prior Experience Necessary: This Modern Apprenticeship welcomes applicants with limited work experience, including school leavers.
