The role:
Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Clinical Technologist who takes a lead role in the provision of a comprehensive nuclear medicine service across the North East sector of Glasgow based at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary site.
The service provides state of the art SPECT-CT imaging, cell labelling, non-imaging, DXA and benign therapy administrations. As well as a large routine workload there is plenty of opportunity for service development and research.
The post holder will be expected to have a role in training of clinical technologists under the IPEM training scheme.
The post holder will be based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary but expected to work in the nuclear medicine departments across the sector (Stobhill Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary).
The successful applicant will have an excellent chance to work as part of a large and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team.
Glasgow has several outstanding museums and art galleries, is the home of Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, as well as several internationally renowned orchestras. The city is within 30 minutes of the beautiful Loch Lomond area and an easy drive to several ski areas. The city is a perfect base for those interested in outdoor pursuits such as climbing, walking and mountain biking.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate evidence of experience in nuclear medicine or imaging. Applicants should ideally be registered with HCPC or RCT.
Visits to the Department and to meet other staff are strongly encouraged.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- Permanent Contract
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Monday - Friday - 0830-1700
Key responsibilities:
- Participate in senior management meetings (monthly) including presenting work at these
- Organise coordinate and participate in the day to day work of the technologist/radiographer team according to departmental policies and procedures
- Changing and co-ordinating staff duties and rota to accommodate annual leave and sick leave – this is often done at short notice this includes the bone density service
- Assist formulating standard operating procedures within the department with particular responsibility for technical operating procedures
- Particular emphasis on responsibilities towards health and safety and the post holder will be expected to act as the deputy control book holder ·
- To work co-operatively with staff of other disciplines in optimising nuclear medicine service
- Responsibility for undertaking technologist and clerical PDP
- Responsibility for co-ordinating in-house training program and the associated record keeping for all staff groups within the department (clinical, scientific, nursing, technical and radiographic, clerical)

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
- Honours Degree in a relevant science or technology subject or a DCR or BSc (Hons) in Radiography, (or HNC/HND with profile of knowledge and training equivalent to BSc (Hons))
- As this is a patient facing role, Registration on the IPEM Register for Clinical Technologists, the AHCS Register of practitioners or as a Radiographer with the HCPC is required.
- Familiarity with the physics underlying radiation protection and in-depth knowledge of relevant current legislation including IRR 2017 and IRMER 2017 and EA(S)R 2018.
- A good understanding of general Nuclear Medicine and SPET-CT with a knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes sufficient to provide an understanding of the nature and relevance of the general diagnostic Nuclear Medicine tests
Desirable
- High level of experience in communicating with technical, clinical and other staff groups.
- Experienced in the presentation of developments/research to large groups at scientific meetings.
- Membership of the IPEM, at an appropriate level
- Previous experience with Radiology and Patient Information Systems
