The role:

We are seeking a qualified HCSW to take on a 1 year secondment in our ultra-sound department in the Princess Royal Maternity. The post holder will provide clinical and clerical support to the multidisciplinary team, provide information and support to women, act as a chaperone when required and support with daily room cleaning and stock ordering/ replenishment.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Princess Royal Maternity Hospital
  • Full-time post (36 hours per week)
  • Fixed-term or Secondment Contract for 1 year
  • Shift Pattern for this post are dayshifts

Key responsibilities:

  • Administrative and clerical duties – reception duties, answering telephone, photocopying, arranging patient appointments, organising patient’s case records, data input for ultrasound statistics.

  • Care for patients by making tea, arranging access to telephone etc. particularly when patients may be distressed.

  • Chaperoning Sonographer during Trans-vaginal scan

  • Reports any concerns with patient condition or care to a Sonographer or Midwife.

  • Assists in identifying potential to improve services for patients.
  • Contributes to the management of risk, department cleanliness and control of infection, ensuring the safety of the work environment for patients, visitors and colleagues. Reports any faults or safety concerns to Lead Sonographer or Senior in charge.
  • Uses appraisal to identify personal development needs and maintain competence.
  • Demonstrates own duties to new and less experienced employees.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Accurate keyboard and data entry.
  • Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload, without supervision, in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work on own initiative in a proactive manner. e. Effective written and verbal communication, literary and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and a willingness to learn.
  • A basic awareness of the importance of good hygiene.
  • Ability to use IT systems.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to fulfill all requirements of the job description.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
