The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Health Care support workers to join our Overnight Palliative Intensive Care service in Glasgow. This post will primarily support patients receiving end of life care at home.

The purpose of the post is to provide support to patients in their own home in the overnight period, therefore this is a night shift only post.

This service sits alongside the District Nursing (DN) Out of Hours (OOHs) Service, and therefore this post will be supported and directed through this team, and as such there may be times when you will also work to support other tasks within the DN OOHs service.

  • This is a permanent post for part-time hours (30)
  • Your shift pattern is nights various to meet service needs and demands

Key responsibilities:

We are seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our community nursing team as a Community Healthcare Support Worker. This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care within a community setting.

Working largely independently, the successful candidate will assist the nursing team with a range of delegated clinical and non-clinical duties, ensuring patients receive compassionate and effective care in their own homes and community clinics.

The role involves supporting patients with personal hygiene and toileting, administering eye drops, assisting with the collection of specimens, and applying simple dressings. You will also support the nursing team in caring for patients with palliative needs and those requiring complex care.

In addition, you will contribute to the smooth running of the service by managing stock control and ordering pharmacy supplies, assisting with community clinics, and maintaining accurate filing and storage of records.

The post holder will attend staff meetings and take part in clinical and mandatory training. You will also be expected to engage in systems that support best practice and participate in personal development planning.

We are looking for a compassionate and organised individual who is able to work with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a wider team. A commitment to delivering high standards of patient care and a willingness to develop professionally are essential.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • SVQ level 3 in healthcare or equivalent experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrate Care behaviours
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Driving Licence
