NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Mon-Sun early/late, nights/weekends/on call

This is a Fixed term post for 12 months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Neurosurgery, based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The posts are available from August 2026. This posts offer experience in neurosurgery and the successful applicants will participate in providing in-patient ward care for neurosurgical patients. Ideally with junior doctor experience in medical and surgical receiving, you will join a team of 10 junior doctors in providing day-time and out-of-hours care, in an acute, multi-disciplinary setting. Doctors on this rota are supported by SPRs and consultants. You will be involved in assessing admissions, managing acute patients on the wards and in HDU, organising and collating test results and completing immediate discharge summaries. You will have the opportunity to attend in-house meetings in neuro-surgery and neuro-radiology.

To practice medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a license to practice.

The successful candidate will take part in an on-call, out of hours rota and will be part of a 10-person FY2 team.

If you would like to find out more, we would love to hear from you.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
