The role:

NHS GG&C Older People’s Psychology Service (OPPS) are pleased to advertise a Principal Clinical Psychologist role within East Dunbartonshire’s Older People’s Community Mental Health Team.

The main base of operations is in Woodlands Resource centre, Kirkintilloch with clinic time also being spent in other clinics within in East Dunbartonshire.

This post sits within the NHS GG&C East Dunbartonshire Mental Health Service. OPPS provides a highly specialist service to older people within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area. Operational management is within the East Dunbartonshire HSCP and professional management is via the Older People’s Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate.

The post reports to an Operations Manager and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

Please note all posts will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a permanent post working part time hours (21.60)

These hours will be worked Monday-Friday. 0900 1700 - working 3 days across onday-Friday (to be negotiated)

This post will be based at Woodlands Mental Health Resource Centre Waterloo Close, Kirkintilloch, G66 2HL

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key responsibilities:

You would be a valued member of a Multidisciplinary mental health team comprising of Psychiatry, Nursing, Occupational Health and Business Support colleagues. The team has established Clinical Psychology input and will enhance the existing resource to allow the delivery of highly specialist Psychological Therapies and Neuropsychological Assessment in a timely and efficient manner and support psychological care within the CMHT.

You will provide an excellent career opportunity for those with interest and enthusiasm for working within Mental Health Services, to contribute to the delivery of high quality psychological care in community settings.

There are regular opportunities to contribute to service development, audit and research priorities. Mental Health Psychology Service are a board wide department who value collaboration and development of staff within their roles.

You will be required provide a specialised clinical psychology service which supports the development and delivery of psychological interventions and therapies (PI/PTs) to Older People across all sectors of care; providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Demonstrates advanced theoretical and practical knowledge as a clinical psychologist, obtained through:
  • Postgraduate doctoral-level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent pre-1996), accredited by the BPS or HCPC, including:
    • Models of psychopathology
    • Clinical psychometrics
    • Neuropsychology
    • Two or more distinct psychological therapies
    • Lifespan developmental psychology
  • Formal training and supervised practice in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) across a range of presentations and severity, supervised by a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist
  • Further post-doctoral training, research, and study across a range of areas, including advanced clinical skills
  • Requirement to provide clinical placements and supervision to Trainee Clinical Psychologists undertaking a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, including:
  • Eligibility for relevant training that meets university accreditation criteria
  • Post-doctoral clinical experience to support this eligibility
  • Registration with the HCPC as a clinical or counselling psychologist
