The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a senior staff nurse/ Midwife within the award-winning team within The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Hospital for Children. The post is within the special care and high dependency unit with opportunity for rotation to ITU/HDU and will incorporate days/nights/weekends/public holidays. The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent.
The Neonatal unit is a busy level 3 50-bedded ITU/HDU/SC. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and evaluation of care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality family-centred care to Neonates and their families.
Please note all other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- This is a 1 year fixed term post working part time hours (22.5)
- This post is based at the Royal Hospital for Children.
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities:
You will be expected to communicate effectively and liaise closely with families and the multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of care. You will apply the principles of good communication in a way that justifies the trust and confidence of the public, establishing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with the baby and their family, nursing colleagues, and members of the wider multidisciplinary team. The role will also involve, where appropriate, communication with external agencies such as Social Services.
Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, relevant guidelines, and divisional policies, you will demonstrate clear, compassionate, and effective verbal and written communication with both families and staff at all times. You will ensure that confidentiality for the baby and their family is always maintained and respected.
You will actively contribute to the clinical communication and education of children, parents, and colleagues, and will play a key role in multi-professional decision-making processes relating to the care of children and their families. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate, clear, and legible nursing documentation that reflects the care delivered, and for recognising, interpreting, and reporting any changes in care needs in a timely manner.
In addition, you will be expected to develop your presentation and IT skills and to participate fully in ward-based and multidisciplinary meetings, contributing to continuous improvement in care delivery and team collaboration.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- First level nursing or midwifery qualification (appropriate part of NMC Register relevant to area)
- Releavent post registration experience.
- Neonatal Qualification in Speciality
- Evidence of continuing professional development equivalent.
- Ability to work within a Multi-disciplinary Team Setting
- Good communication skills
- Positive professional manner and attitude
