Locum Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia, Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow

Applications are invited for a full-time Locum Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia based at the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC), Glasgow.

This post is offered as a 10 Programmed Activity (PA) contract, with clinical responsibilities shared between cardiac and general theatres on an 8:2 DCC:SPA basis. The post includes an on-call commitment of 1:5, providing cover for paediatric cardiac surgical and cardiology emergencies on the RHC site. The position is initially offered as sabbatical cover, with a review to potential extension thereafter.

Clinical Team and Duties

The successful candidate will work alongside three Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthetists and will be expected to contribute flexibly to anaesthetic services in the general theatres, according to service requirements.

Paediatric Cardiac Service

The Paediatric Cardiac Service in Glasgow is currently in an exciting period of development. Plans are in place to expand the number of operating surgeons on the RHC site from two to three.

· There is one dedicated cardiac theatre supporting both elective and emergency surgery

· Elective surgery is currently scheduled on three weekdays, with plans to expand activity subject to emergency workload

· Additional sessions are available in the Interventional Cardiology Suite, offering opportunities to participate in new procedure development and service innovation
