To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service. Further information on what NHS Scotland Boards are required to do to check this as well as what your responsibilities include can be found in the further information for this vacancy.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

Band 6 Specialist Radiographer – Cardiovascular Labs and CT Rotation

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you keen to advance your career within fast paced and dynamic imaging departments? Are you interested in working in Edinburgh and surrounding areas? Then working in NHS Lothian Radiology could be for you!

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and well-motivated radiographer to join our imaging team in this busy rotational post. The postholder will rotate in 12-week blocks between CT and the Cardiovascular Labs, which include Cardiac Cath Labs and Interventional Radiology. They will be involved in the practical and theoretical teaching of students and radiographers on rotation from the general department.

Within the Cardiovascular Labs, the postholder will support a varied and complex range of procedures. This includes diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, electrophysiology, vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology and emergency procedures including arterial embolisation and primary percutaneous coronary intervention. The role involves close multidisciplinary working with radiologists, cardiologists, nurses, physiologists and other members of the wider clinical team. The department provides 24/7 emergency cover via an on-call service.

Within CT, the postholder will contribute to the delivery of a busy CT service at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The Royal Infirmary is a major trauma centre and there is a requirement to provide 24/7 on-site cover for CT, which the successful candidate will be part of.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop the practical and theoretical knowledge required for both specialist areas.

Evening, weekend and out-of-hours working will be expected as part of the working week and departmental service requirements. Participation in relevant rota arrangements will be required.

The CT department provides imaging of most body areas using Canon Aquilion Prism, Prime SP and Lightning CT scanners. The Cardiovascular Labs provide imaging across a range of imaging systems including GE Innova, GE Allia, Siemens Artis Zee and soon-to-be-installed Canon Alphenix Sky+.

Imaging Team radiographers are expected to be proactive regarding further education and continuing professional development. A flexible approach to work is essential and the postholder must be committed to providing the highest quality service to our patients and colleagues.

We would expect all applicants to have a minimum of 6 months NHS radiography experience.

Established experience in CT, Cardiac Cath Labs and/or Interventional Radiology would certainly be an advantage, although training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.

In-person interviews are preferred.

Further contact details for the post or for an informal chat, along with interview details, can be found on the NHS Scotland Job Train website.
