The role:

As an integral member of the Acute Addiction Liaison Team the post-holder will work in partnership demonstrating compassionate caring behaviours to fulfil the key functions of the Acute Addiction Liaison Service. The post holder will be a key link between Acute Hospitals and Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services (ADRS) and wider care providers.

The post holder will be responsible for assessment, formulation, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care relating to alcohol and drug recovery using a strength based recovery focused approach to care that proactively involves the person. Defining the level of need of problematic alcohol and/or drug use patients and targeting appropriate services pre discharge from hospital.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a permanent post of 36 hours per week.

This will be a city-wide but would be based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, in the first instance.

The shift pattern is Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm.

Key responsibilities:

The post-holder will be expected to have a commitment to the concept of recovery, enabling people to move on from their drug and alcohol problems and fulfil the alcohol and drug recovery service key functions:

    • Alcohol and drug assessment
    • Interventions for people with alcohol and drug health needs
    • Provide Person Centred Standards of Care
    • Promoting and supporting physical and mental well being and prevention of relapse
    • Support people towards recovery
    • Advice, guidance and signposting

The post-holder will practice within a legal & ethical framework as defined by:

  • Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) The Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives
  • National and local policy, guidelines and protocols
  • Other appropriate legislation which may impact on practice

The post-holders activity as a member of the Acute Addiction Liaison Team may involve interfacing with a variety of services typically including:

  • Tier 4 Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services
  • Community Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services
  • Adult /Older Adult Services
  • Primary Care Services
  • Mental Health Services

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Registered Nurse – Level 1 NMC registration and knowledge of addictions.

Educated to minimum degree level/ or equivalent

Evidence of active and ongoing Continuing Professional Development

Completion of an evidenced based psychological therapies/ psychological approaches to care formal programme of study

Actively working towards postgraduate level/ or equivalent

Completed a recognised mentor preparation programme/ registered mentor

Specialist knowledge and application of physical and/ or mental health nursing care

Specialist knowledge and application of risk assessment/ factors impacting on physical/ mental health/ wellness and recovery

Evidence of Supervision/ reflective practice as a supervisor
