The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, Band 3, Health Care Support Worker to join the nursing team within the Surgical Receiving Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

It is a busy receiving unit which requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

We have five surgical wards, two 30-bed wards for receiving (ward 63 and 64) and a 12 Surgical Assessment Unit, as well as Ward 65, 66/49 and ERAS wards.

Please note all roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • This is a permanent post
  • You will be working 36 hours per week and the shift pattern is rotational and will consist of a variable shift pattern working a mixture of Early/Late/12 hour shifts
  • You will be based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Key responsibilities:

You will play an important part in the patients’ journey, working within the unit assisting registered nurses and the clinical team in the care of emergency receiving patients undergoing surgical assessment, investigation and management.

You must have a commitment to the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate patient-centred care. You must also demonstrate excellent communication skills.

You should be able to work autonomously as well as within a team and be committed to continuous professional development.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • To meet the challenges of this post you must hold SVQ level 2 or be willing to complete within the first year of employment and have relevant experience in a caring environment.

  • You will be required to achieve the mandatory induction standards for Health Care Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
