Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Prison Healthcare

An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and enthusiastic Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) to join the Prison Healthcare Bank Service within NHS Forth Valley.
NHS Forth Valley is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services across three national prison establishments:
· HMP & YOI Stirling – Young offender females (16–21 years) and adult female offenders
· HMP Glenochil – Adult male offenders
· HMP & YOI Polmont – Young males up to 21 years, adult male offenders and adult female offenders
Each establishment has a dedicated Health Centre staffed by multidisciplinary teams comprising Primary Care and Mental Health & Addictions Services.
The Role
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, you will work autonomously within prison healthcare, applying advanced levels of clinical decision-making to assess, diagnose, treat and manage patients with a wide range of healthcare needs. You will provide high-quality, patient-centred care through comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and review, working in partnership with patients.
The role also includes:
· Providing specialist clinical advice, leadership and education to healthcare colleagues, Scottish Prison Service (SPS) partners and patients
· Working collaboratively across prison healthcare teams to develop and enhance services
· Supporting the implementation, evaluation and monitoring of evidence-based standards, guidelines and policies
· Contributing to service development and quality improvement in line with the four pillars of advanced practice
You will support the Healthcare Manager in assuring safe, effective and person-centred care delivery across prison healthcare services.
Essential Criteria
You are required to be:
· A Registered Adult Nurse (RGN) with a current UK NMC PIN
· In possession of substantial post-registration experience
· Educated to Master’s level in Advanced Practice, including the following mandatory modules:
o Advanced Clinical Assessment
o Clinical Decision Making
o Independent / Non-Medical Prescribing (V300)

Working Pattern
· Core hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00
· Saturday morning clinic to support admission clinics at HMP & YOI Stirling
· Bank post – you will be expected to work as and when required
Travel
The post requires travel across all three prison sites, which may include travel between two establishments in one day. A full UK driving licence is essential.
