Job Advert

NHS Lothian Clinical Health Psychology Service is excited to be advertising this permanent 0.5wte Band 8A Applied Psychologist post, based within the Pain Management Service at Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh.

This is a key post within the Pain Management Service, with key responsibilities for providing clinical input to patients presenting with higher levels of psychosocial complexity associated with their experience of chronic pain, with therapeutic rehabilitative interventions being provided in both 1:1 and group based (via the Pain Management Programme) formats, with patients being seen in-person or online (NearMe).

You will be working very closely with Specialist Pain Physiotherapy colleagues, as well as other psychologists from different professional backgrounds. This post-holder will be expected to provide Clinical Supervision to other qualified members of the team, and trainee psychologists and assistant psychologists. There are opportunities to lead/take part in service audits/ research and service developments.

You will be part of the wider Clinical Health Psychology Service, which comprises around 25 clinicians working across 15 different specialisms. Opportunities are available for peer-based supervision, trauma-informed reflective practice and participation in wider Clinical Health Psychology training/CPD, networking and support. There are also good links with the Pain Service (pain specialist medical and nursing colleagues) at the Leith Community Treatment Centre, with opportunity for regular case discussion and consultation.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.

If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
